Malaysian Artists Aim To Score In Mongolian Art Exhibition

Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia - Like an arrow shot from the bow of Mongol's legendary archers, 10 Malaysian artists hope to find their mark at the 25th Asian International Art Exhibition (AIAE) in September in Ulan-Bator.

Renowned as a major international art exhibition, the AIAE would serve as a platform for Malaysian artists to promote Malaysian art and culture overseas, through their paintings.

Tourism Malaysia chairman Datuk Dr Victor Wee Eng Lye said the opportunity provided by AIAE would lure tourists to Malaysia as art and tourism could promote Malaysia's image and culture.

Besides promoting Malaysian art and culture, he said, the artists could interact with their counterparts from participating countries and expose themselves to their art, culture and way of life.

Wee said this when officiating the Pre-Mongolian 25th AIAE, on behalf of Tourism Minister Datuk Seri Dr Ng Yen Yen here Wednesday.

The aim of the three-week Pre-Mongolian 25th AIAE at Galeri Chandan in Bukit Damansara is to present works of the 10 artists to collect funds for their trip to the Mongolian National Modern Art Gallery in Ulan-Bator.

About 40 paintings will be shown to the public, with prices ranging from between RM3,000 and RM100,000.

Federation of Asian Artists-Malaysia Committee president Dr Choong Kam Kow said the 10 artists participating in the AIAE were self-funding and would have to bear all costs to attend the three-day exhibition.
