Maluku has natural beauty

Ambon, Indonesia - The US Navy‘s floating hospital USNS Mercy T-AH-19 Public Relations (PR) official Bernardi has said Maluku province had natural beauty as tourism assets.

"Maluku has beautiful landscapes with friendly people and food that attract tourists and visitors," Bernardi said at Swiss Bel Hotel here on Wednesday.

Attracted by Maluku‘s natural beauty, Bernardi said he would bring along his wife and two sons on his next visit to the so-called "Province of One Thousand Islands."

He said he was greatly impressed by the green valleys and mountains, beautiful beaches, and the hospitality of the people of Maluku, especially those in Ambon.

"I go jogging every morning here and each time I meet the people on the streets they greet me no matter whther they know me personally or not," Bernardi said.

He also admired various typical foods served to him at the hotel and he said he liked them so much.

Bernardi‘s presence in Ambon along with a team from USNS Mercy was to inspect the locations which are to be the centers of the Surya Baskara Jaya health service operation, to be supported by the US floating hospital.

The USNS Mercy is scheduled to arrive in Ambon on July 26, 2010 to give free health services to the people of Maluku from July 27 - August 4, 2010 as part of its support to the Surya Baksara Jaya health operation.

Sail Banda 2010 local committee chairman Cak Saimima said in Ambon recently that the health operation would be conducted in conjunction with the international marine event in the province.

"A similar program as part of Sail Banda 2010 will also be conducted in Banda Neira, Central Maluku district at the same time," Cak Saimima said.

He said the health operation activity by using floating hospital would be conducted at Mamala, Morella, Liang, Waai, Tulehu, Passo, and Hutumuri villages on the island of Ambon.

"The Surya Baksara Jaya health operation will be supported by the biggest United States Navy floating hospital USNS MERCY T-AH-19," Saimima said.(*)
