Singapore Malay Orchestra to perform in Netherlands

Singapore- The Singapore Malay Orchestra (Orkestra Melayu Singapura) will be performing at a prestigious cultural event in the Netherlands for the first time.

The 20 musicians will be playing at what is known as the "Tong Tong Festival", from May 17 to 20.
The band will be using Malay, Chinese, Indian and Western instruments in their repertoire of traditional Malay music, which is themed "Soul of a City" (Gema Warisan).

The performance was initiated by Dr Yaacob Ibrahim, Minister for the Environment and Water Resources, to promote Malay culture and the arts.

It is also part of joint efforts to boost cultural relations between Singapore and the Netherlands. - CNA/ms
