ASEAN defence ministers to discuss cooperation plan

Singapore - ASEAN`s defence ministers have gathered in Singapore to chart out plans for cooperation for the next five years.

One of the issues to be discussed for adoption is engaging defence establishments from countries outside Southeast Asia.

The defence ministers will also sign a joint declaration at the end of their meeting - a testimony that the ministers are committed to enhancing regional peace and security.

Singapore`s Ministry of Defence says the declaration will also emphasise their commitment to achieve the vision of an ASEAN Security Community by 2015.

This is the defence ministers` second meeting which will be chaired by Defence Minister Teo Chee Hean.

The inaugural one was held last year in Kuala Lumpur.

During their three-day discussions in Singapore, the defence ministers will also call on Prime Minister Lee Hsien Loong.
