Asean member countries plan fashion festival

The embassies of the member-countries of the Association of Southeast Asian Nations (Asean), are to present a fashion festival with the theme `A Celebration of Culture` on November 16 at La Cigale Hotel.

The event named Asean Fashion Festival Doha, is being organised as part of the annual function held by the Asean Ambassadors Group, to spread awareness and appreciation of cultures of the Asean countries. The group is comprised of Brunei, Indonesia, Malaysia, the Philippines, Singapore and Thailand.

With Philippines Ambassador Begonia, this year`s chair, proposing the theme, the group decided to showcase the rich cultural tradition of the region in the form of a fashion show.

“As a fitting celebration of Asean`s 40th Anniversary, the fashion show would promote better understanding of the Asean way of life as expressed in the clothes worn by the people in the region,” said an embassy spokesperson.

The fashion show will feature about 60 creations for men and women done by renowned Filipino fashion designer Beatriz `Patis` Tesoro.

A brief `Parade of National Costumes` of member-countries will precede the fashion show.
As a reflection of the friendly relations between the Asean members and Qatar, the event will support Reach-out-to Asia (Rota) and one of Tesoro`s gowns will be donated to Rota. Several of her other gowns will be on sale after the show as well, part of the proceeds of those will be donated to Rota too.
