Children doing well emotionally and socially: survey

Singapore - Children in Singapore are doing well emotionally and socially, according to a survey by Singapore Children`s Society.

The survey of six- to 12-year-olds showed that most have good relationships with their families and friends, and that they generally think their parents are right to scold or punish them.

A small percentage, about 10 per cent, of parents never or seldom think they are right to scold or punish their children.

The survey also found that the majority of children have good relations with their friends. But about six per cent have difficulty in making friends.

Parents from higher income families also tend to help children with homework more frequently than parents from low income families.

The Singapore Children`s Society interviewed more than 900 parents and their children for this survey.
