Malaysian Education Fair Due Back In Brunei

Bandar Seri Begawan - After its successful debut in December last year, the Malaysia Education Fair will be returning to Brunei on November 6 and 7 at Level 1, The Mall, Gadong.

This was announced by the Malaysia High Commissioner, Dato‘ Ku Jaafar Ku Shaari, during a press conference held for members of media, at the Malaysia High Commission office, yesterday.

According to Dato‘ Ku Jaafar Ku Shaari, the aim of the education fair is to attract the interest of Bruneian students as well as their parents to explore the availability of a good educational institution for higher learning in Malaysia.

"Brunei and Malaysia has a longstanding history where we share similar traditions, culture and language so Bruneian students studying in Malaysia will feel very much at home, considering distance wise, Malaysia and Brunei are very close to each other," said Dato‘ Ku Jaafar Ku Shaari.

"Also, Malaysia has an international standard and high quality education, closely monitored by the Malaysian Education Ministry, offering an extensive selection of universities, colleges and courses to suit individual preference."

"Apart from being an economically sound and socially safe country, studying in Malaysia offers affordable living expenses for as low as RM$11,000 per year," he further stated.

Since 1998, five international reputable universities such as the Monash University from Australia and the University of Nottingham from the UK have set up their branch campuses in Malaysia offering exactly the same degrees as the main campus located overseas. Students benefit from paying a cheaper tuition fee and they also have the opportunity to spend one or more semesters at the main campus overseas with no disruption to their studies.

"There are currently 40,000 international students from 150 countries in Malaysia testifying the world-wide acceptance of Malaysian education," said the Malaysia High Commissioner.

Moreover, the Malaysia Tourism Ministry also offers the ‘Malaysia My Second Home‘ package for parents of students studying in Malaysia to invest and buy properties, in addition to offering good medical facilities and other benefits in Malaysia.

According to Mr Roland Chan, the General Manager of ibf International Network Sdn Bhd, Malaysia Education Promotion and Student Placement Consultant, currently there are more than 300 Bruneian students studying in Malaysia, of which 133 are studying in private institutions or colleges.

"From last year‘s education fair, we gathered that most Bruneian students are interested in postgraduate programmes in the fields of Business, IT and Engineering," said Mr Chan.

Co-organised by ibf International Network Sdn Bhd (Malaysia) and Sunlit Advertising (Brunei), the education fair is participated by the Ministry of Higher Education, Malaysia, Ministry of Education, Malaysia, Universiti Kuala Lumpur, International College of Advance Technology Sarawak, Universiti Malaya, Universiti Malaysia Sarawak, Universiti Malaysia Sabah, Curtin University of Technology Sarawak, Universiti Tun Hussien Onn Malaysia and Asia Pacific Institute of Information Technology.

The two-day education fair will be open from 11am to 7pm.
