Muhammadiyah set to celebrate Idul Fitri on Friday

Jakarta - Muhammadiyah, the second largest Muslim organization in the country, is set to celebrate Idul Fitri on Friday.

Muhammadiyah chairman Din Syamsuddin said based on its calculation, his organization believed that the date for Idul Fitri falls on Friday.

The government will decide Thursday evening whether Idul Fitri will be celebrated on Friday or Saturday.

"The government should not make a stand on the Idul Fitri day as it conveys a message that the government does not protect all Muslims in the country," Din was quoted by Metro TV as saying.
In Depok, some 30 kilometers south of Jakarta, Muhammadiyah followers have prepared Idul Fitri prayer in 25 locations including in At-Taubah Mosque, East Depok and in a mosque at Juanda Street, Antara reported.

In Riau islands, Muhammadiyah will center the Idul Fitri prayer in five locations including in Batam`s Tumenggung Abdul parking lot, Nurul Ihsan Mosque (Karimun), and At Taqwa Mosque (Tanjung Pinang).
