PPPMB Meets Visiting Cultural Delegation From Kalimantan

Bandar Seri Begawan - The Federation of Brunei Malay Entrepreneurs (PPPMB) yesterday held an informal gathering to discuss trade and cultural exchange with a visiting cultural delegation from Brau, Samarinda in Kalimantan.

Held at the Indonesian Embassy in Kg Sungai Hanching, the cultural delegation, led by Brau Bupati Makmur Pahk, is currently in the Sultanate since Nov 17 for official cultural performances hosted by the Ministry of Culture, Youth and Sports.

However, the Bupati Makmur Pakh who arrived in Brunei on Nov 19 specifically asked for the Indonesian Embassy to arrange a meeting with Hj Osman Hj Omar, one of his closest friends, who is now the president of PPPMB.

Bupati Makmur Pakh said his cultural delegation comprises 150 persons including four members of parliament or DPR, 40 cultural and civil servants as well as accompanying cultural troupes from Jakarta and West Java.

The civil servants are from various government departments such forestry, land, immigration, economic and infrastructure.

He said while in Brunei, the cultural troupes will perform marriage rituals which are very similar to the Brunei culture.

Later in the afternoon, the Brau delegation was hosted to lunch at a restaurant in Serusop, Berakas by the federation.

The group travelled by air from Brau to Nunukan before boarding speed boats for a two-hour ride from Nunukan to Tawau.

They then boarded a 30-minute flight from Tawau to Kota Kinabalu before catching another flight to Bandar Seri Begawan. The group will return home on Nov 22.
