SEAMEO And KRIVET Strengthen Educational Ties

Bandar Seri Begawan - The Southeast Asian Ministers of Education Organisation Regional Centre for Vocational and Technical Education and Training (SEAMEO‘ VOCTECH) and the Korea Research Institute for Vocational Education and Training (KRIVET) signed a memorandum of agreement yesterday, which aims to improve and strengthen vocational and technical education training.

"With the commonality of our goals and aspirations, we will endeavour to work out on our stipulated initiatives on research, organise training programmes, exchange published information and related statistics, and to fulfill the commitments specified in the agreement," said Mohamad Abu Bakar, Director of SEAMEO Voctech.

The signing ceremony saw Hwang Won-Kun, Ambassador of the Republic of Korea to Brunei, Hjh NorJum Hj Yusop, the Deputy Permanent Secretary at the Ministry of Education and Dr Young Real Choi, a researcher from KRIVET agree on a three-year promise of cooperation that will see new pathways to knowledge and teaming, as well as the exploration of possibilities for higher educational efforts.

"Perceptive leaders hold the key answer... the interplay of vital open institutions, that focuses on work, on knowledge to increase productivity, and to achieve change," added Mohamad Abu Bakar.

The joint venture involves the following initiatives to be undertaken by both SEAMEO VOCTECH and KRIVET:
  • To explore the possibilities of jointly sponsoring research initiatives in human resources development and vocational education and training;
  • To explore the possibility of collaboration in organising international activities such as conferences, seminars, workshops and training programmes;
  • To exchange policy, research and technical reports and other published information produced by each party;
  • To exchange various statistics related to vocational education and training and other quantitative data;
  • To explore the possibility of staff exchange with the aim of fostering the development of human resources of the two organisations; and
  • To encourage the research staff to participate in international activities such as conferences, seminars, workshops and training programmes organised by the other party.
