Singapore committed to promoting cultural diversity: Gan Kim Yong

Paris - Singapore is committed to the preservation and promotion of cultural diversity, even as it evolves as a modern city.

This assurance comes from Minister of State for Education and Manpower Gan Kim Yong.

Mr Gan was speaking at the 34th session of the United Nations Educational, Scientific, and Cultural Organisation (UNESCO) General Conference in Paris, France.

He said one way to strengthen cultural links across Asia and the world was through an exhibition at the Asian Civilisations Museum.

It is titled `On the Nalanda Trail: Buddhism in India, China and Southeast Asia` and will open next month.

The exhibition is held in conjunction with the 13th ASEAN Summit and Third East Asia Summit in Singapore.

It is supported by loans from museums in India and Southeast Asia.

Mr Gan said Singapore had integrated its cultural heritage with contemporary arts to create a lively arts scene.
