Staying Ship-Shape With PEMODA: Read Books Too, Don`t Just Surf

Bandar Seri Begawan - As part of PEMODA‘s ongoing contribution to promote cultural as well as local customs, PEMODA‘s president along with some member bikers paid a visit to the world‘s biggest floating library docked at the Muara Port, the My Doulos.

The visit was to raise awareness of the reading culture in Brunei, and to share some insight on the association‘s obligations and activities with the ship‘s captain. Captain Ashley McDonald.

Part of PEMODA‘s community responsibility is to promote and raise awareness on issues such as the ‘Tsunami Relief Fund‘ and most recently, participating to help raise funds for the Children of the Child Development Center, Ministry of Education.

With the backing of some 500 members, PEMODA‘s capacity to raise awareness among the public is pretty strong. Hence PEMODA‘s visit to the MV Doulos tells the people in Brunei to read and not just to rely on the Internet. The reading culture in Brunei is steadily increasing, which is a good sign in this technological age where books have been replaced by the Internet for means of information and research.

"Visiting the largest floating book store in the world helps promote the reading culture in Brunei. Hopefully our visit will open up the hearts and minds of people especially the youth, that even bikers read books to better themselves, so why not you," said President of PEMODA, Major (R) Hj Mohd Daud Hj Mohd Jamil.
