STB expands Categories of Singapore Education Awards

Singapore - Building on the momentum of the inaugural Singapore Education Awards which was launched in March 2007, the Singapore Tourism Board has expanded the upcoming Singapore Education Awards 2008 with three new award categories.

“Following the successful inauguration of the Singapore Education Awards this year, it was timely that we reviewed and enhanced the awards to increase its robustness and relevance to the education industry. The expansion of the awards will enable us to recognise and applaud more exemplary individuals and organisations in the industry who have, over the years, enhanced Singapore‘s reputation as a compelling education destination. The industry‘s support is pivotal to the realisation of reaching our target to host 150,000 full-fee paying international students in Singapore by 2015,” said Ms Magdalene Lee, Director, Education Services Division, STB.

The Singapore Education Awards is an integral part of the STB‘s efforts to rally the Singapore Education industry to enhance industry collaboration, exchange best practices and ideas, and encourage members to strive for higher levels of professionalism in the promotion of Singapore Education to overseas students.

The Singapore Education Awards will consist of 10 award categories. The new award categories include the ‘Best Media Coverage for Singapore Education (both Print and Broadcast)‘, ‘Best International Marketing Effort (both Public Educational Institution and Private Educational Institution)‘ and ‘Best Host for International Students Studying in Singapore (both Hostels and Schools)‘.

The nomination period for Singapore Education Awards 2008 will run from 22 October to 23 November 2007. Nominations can be submitted either online (se-awards.sg) or via the official forms that will be made available at 82 locations island-wide including schools, attractions, all Singapore Visitors Centre, hostels and community libraries.

Five of the categories will be open for the public to submit nominations. These include ‘Best Educational Event organised by a Public Educational Institution‘; ‘Friend of International Students Award‘; ‘Best Host for International Students Studying in Singapore (Hostels and Schools)‘, and ‘Best Enrichment Programme‘.

Based on the nominations, a panel of judges comprising representatives from the industry as well as professionals in the relevant fields, will select the finalists and the eventual award winners for the Singapore Education Awards ceremony on 25 March 2008.
