Students’ Talents Come Under Spotlight At Lively Cultural Show

Bandar Seri Begawan - The Sounds of the hadrah echoed throughout The Mall‘s atrium Saturday night inviting curious on-lookers to stop for a cursory look as both primary and secondary students performed in a lively cultural show organised by the Arts and Culture Section, Co-Curriculum Department of the Ministry of Education.

Although performing in front of a huge audience, the students did not show any signs of nervousness but instead staged flawless performances.

According to Sukardi Kaderi from the co-curriculum department, the show gave students a chance to showcase their talents. "The students performing tonight are extremely talented and this is one way we can expose them to a bigger audience." Such activities can hopefully make parents encourage their children to join co-curricular activities, he added. A total of 13 schools participated in the cultural show, with performances ranging from hadrah, traditional dances, syair (traditional Malay poem), gulintangan, as well as a band performance.

The department also organised an art competition for students from primary, secondary schools and colleges nationwide and has received 300 entries. The winners will be announced tomorrow, followed by a prize presentation. The artwork will be on display at The Mall for three days starting tomorrow.
