Tadarus Ceremonies at Two Mosques

Brunei, Muara and Belait - The advent of the holy month of Ramadhan has heralded a series of religious activities across the sultanate. Yesterday saw tadarus ceremonies being held at the Kg Masin Mosque organised by the Prime Minister‘s Office and at the Kampung Labi Mosque in Belait organised by the Ministry of Religious Affairs.

The tadarus ceremony organised by the Prime Minister‘s Office was attended by Pehin Datu Seri Maharaja Dato Paduka Seri Setia Ustaz Haji Abdul Aziz Juned, the State Mufti and the Deputy Permanent Secretary at the Prime Minister‘s Office, Haji Abdul Aziz OKML Haji Md Yusof.

The ceremony was also attended by the Police Commissioner, Pehin Datu Kerma Setia CP Dato Paduka Seri Zainuddin Jalani and the Minister of Energy, Pehin Orang Kaya Seri Utama Dato Seri Setia Hj Yahya Begawan Mudim Dato Paduka Hj Bakar.

Other members and representatives of the various government departments under the Prime Minister‘s Office were also present at the ceremony.

The event which began at 4pm yesterday concluded with a presentation of 40 pieces of Rihal or Wooden Quran Holders donated to mosques by the Royal Brunei Police Force, the Narcotics Control Bureau and the State Mufti Department, followed by the breaking of the fast and a mass Maghrib prayers.

The event was co-hosted by the Kg Masin Mosque Takmir Committee, the Royal Brunei Police Force and the Narcotics Control Bureau.

Second in a series of tadarus events scheduled by the Prime Minister‘s Office in conjunction with this year‘s Ramadhan, the congregation will be hosted by different departments under the Prime Minister‘s Office and will be held in various mosques throughout the country.

Meanwhile, a second tadarus ceremony organised by the Ministry of Religious Affairs took place yesterday at the Kampung Labi Mosque in Belait.

The event was held to glorify the holy month as well as foster a stronger relationship between the Ministry of Religious Affairs and the residents of Kampung Labi.

Leading the delegation to Kampung Labi was Dato Paduka Hj Abdul Rahman Hj Mohiddin, the Permanent Secretary of Religious Affairs.

During the ceremony, he also agreed to present a waqaf or endowment on behalf of the Ministry of Religious Affairs to the Kampung Labi Mosque.

Imam Soffian Bidin, the acting imam of the mosque, received a gift of a lawn mower, an oil canister and chokmar (an imam‘s khutbah staff) from the permanent secretary.

Accompanying Dato Hj Abdul Rahman was Deputy Permanent Secretary of Religious Affairs Dato Paduka Hj Ishaaq Hj Abdullah, 50 members of the ministry‘s staff and the residents of Kg Labi.

The permanent secretary began the ceremony by leading a mass recital of the Holy Quran, followed by a bertahlil ceremony. After breaking fast, the congregation performed the Maghrib prayer.

The event was jointly organised by the Islamic Da‘wah Centre, the Islamic Council Department and the Belait District Religious Affairs Department. The next tadarus ceremony will be held at the Kg Labu Estate Mosque in Temburong.
