Asean University Student Leaders Meet In UBD

Bandar Seri Begawan - Universiti Brunei Darussalam (UBD) held the official opening ceremony of the 2008 Asean University Student Leaders Conference (PPMU ASEAN 2008) at the Senate Room in the Chancellor`s Hall.

The theme of the, conference was "Memperkasa Persatuan Mahasiswa Di Era ICT" and was organised by the UBD`s Student Affairs Department. The conference is scheduled to end today.

The objective of the conference is to strengthen the leadership among the student leaders from Asean universities, who are valuable assets to their respective universities and nations.

The conference also seeks to build and strengthen relationships and cooperation among the student leaders, and to unify the student leaders in an activity that is designed to develop intellectualism.

The participants are from the Philippines, Indonesia, Cambodia, Laos, Malaysia, Myanmar, Singapore, Thailand, Vietnam and Brunei Darussalam, as the host nation.

Present as the guest of honour was Pehin Orang Kaya Dewa Pahlawan Dato Paduka Awang Haji Dani bin Haji Ibrahim, Deputy Minister of Home Affairs.

The event began with the recital of selected verses from the Quran, which was followed by a welcoming speech by the Vice Chancellor of UBD Dato Paduka Dr Haji Ismail Bin Haji Duraman.

The deputy minister then officiated the event and in his speech congratulated UBD and the Student Affairs Department for making the 3rd PPMU ASEAN conference a reality. The deputy minister was then presented with a token of appreciation by the vice chancellor of UBD.

This was followed by supplications and a group photo session with the guest of honour and the participants who attended the event. Before the event drew to a close, the participants were invited to tour the exhibition on show from the various Asean universities and were served light refreshments.
