Belai Cinta Tanah Air Project Launched In Tutong

Tutong - The Belia Cinta TanahAir 2008 project was launched yesterday in the Tutong District. The event‘s guest of honour was Hj Ahmad Hj Abd Rahman, Deputy Permanent Secretary at the Ministry of Culture, Youth and Sports.

Also present were State Council member (Ahli Mesyuarat Negara) Pehin Dato Paduka Hj Mohd Taha Abd Rauf, Hj Metassim Hj Jibah, the Director of the Youth and Sports, and Hj Faisal Eusof, Head of the Tutong Youth and Sports, who was also the event‘s chairman, as well as other invited guests.

In his speech, the chairman said that the Ministry of Culture, Youth and Sports programme is being handled by its Youth and Sports Department. Organised in conjunction with the 24th National Day, it has three phases. Among its main aims are to develop community values and strengthen ties.

Yesterday‘s event was held at the multi-purpose hall of Pasameka Serambangun Tutong as part of its third phase. Some 22 youths from the district were involved in the programme that began with the raising of the national flag and singing of the national anthem.

The guest of honour then inspected the line up of participants before being presented with a token of appreciation and officially launching the event. The participants later joined a parade led by a 45-member police cadet band (from the headquarters in Gadong), heading to the Tutong Mall and Tanjung Maya.

The programme, which will go on for three whole days, will see some community work, cultural activities and games. Its participants are between 15 and 25 years of age.
