Bulgaria to Continue Cultural Cooperation with Indonesia

Bulgaria - Bulgaria`s Minister of Culture Stefan Danailov met Friday with his Indonesian counterpart thus enhancing the traditional cultural contacts between the two countries.

The visit of Indonesia`s Minister of Culture and Tourism Jero Wachik started Friday and in the Bulgarian capital Sofia, and will continue on Saturday with a tour of cultural and historic sites in the country`s second largest city of Plovdiv.

Bulgaria and Indonesia have traditionally well-developed cultural contacts in the field of culture, education, and science.

The Association of Friends of Indonesia "Nusantra" ("fatherland") was founded in Sofia in 1994. It organizes cultural events, courses in Indonesian languages, and the publication of books about Indonesia in Bulgaria.

Indonesia also participates each year in the annual folk festival in the National Palace of Culture. In 2003, the Bulgarian Ministry of Culture presented a photo exhibition called "Bali - Stairs to Heaven".

Since 2004, Bulgaria has participated in the Djakarta Festival of European Films. Several Bulgarian folklore ensembles have toured Indonesia.
