Halal satay celup now available in Malacca

Malacca - The popular satay celup can now to be enjoyed by Muslims at Semabok Inn. The two-star hotel introduced the dish and the unique Indonesian-style ikan bakar (grilled fish) at a simple ceremony here recently.

Guest of honour, Malacca governor Tun Mohd Khalil Yaakob, gave some pointers when he officiated at the launch.

“The key to delicious grilled ikan bakar is to deep fry the fish before grilling it, to give it a crispy texture,” he said.

Semabok Inn owner Datuk Tiu Ah Chai said Muslims could enjoy the Malaccan delicacy without any worries.

Satay celup is a dish where an assortment of raw and semi-cooked seafood, meat and vegetables on skewers are dunked into a pot of boiling sauce similar to the peanut satay sauce but having a variety of ingredients including herbs and spices.

“The Indonesia style grilled fish is unique and absolutely delicious. We are promoting it with our satay celup,” said Tiu, a frequent traveller to Indonesia.

The grilled fish is marinated in turmeric powder, herbs and spices before being grilled to a crispy golden brown over a charcoal fire.
