Bandar Seri Begawan - Universiti Brunei Darussalam (UBD) organised a special religious talk by the State Mufti, Pehin Datu Seri Maharaja Dato Paduka Seri Setia Dr Ustaz Hj Awang Abdul Aziz Juned, to mark the annual hijrah celebrations yesterday afternoon.
The state mufti talked about the history of hijrah, the carefully planned migration of the Prophet Muhammad (Peace be upon him) and his followers from Mekah to Medina, which marks the beginning of the Islamic era.
The assembly listened with rapt attention as the mufti spoke of the night of hijrah when a group of Arab Quraish made plans to assassinate the Prophet Muhammad and how the plot was foiled by the efforts and sacrifices made by Abu Bakr alSiddiq and `Ali Karamallahu Wajhah, friends of the Prophet.
This scholarly accurate talk on the history of hijrah based on valid historical facts is hoped to provide the assembly with further knowledge and viewpoints that can be applied in their everyday lives as fellow Muslims.
Vice Chancellor Dato Paduka Dr Haji Ismail bin Haji Duraman and senior officers of both UBD and Unissa were among the guests present at the event. During his welcoming speech, Dr Awang Saiful Azmi Hj Awang Husain, dean of students and chairman of the ceremony, stated that the lecture by the state mufti will hopefully serve as an example and guidance for the followers of Islam in their practice to achieve God`s will.
About 300 UBD and Unissa (Sultan Sharif Ali Islamic University) students and 50 lecturers and staff of the universities were also present.
This is an annual religious activity of UBD, which is usually accompanied with talks, lectures and forums.
