Road Show For Poetry Lovers In Kuala Belait

Kuala Belait - To further enliven the spirit of patriotism during the National Day celebrations, the independence poetry recital road show will continue its journey, this time in Kuala Belait.

The road show will be held at the Civic Hall, Kuala Belait commencing at 8.20pm tomorrow, February I 7.

The National Day celebration event will be officiated by the Belait District Officer, Awang Hj Mohamad bin hj Abdul Rahman.

The guest of honour will deliver a speech alter a welcoming address by the organising chairman, Dr Malaim bin Bakar, the Director of Language and Literature Bureau (DBP), Ministry of Culture, Youth and Sports.

Amongst those who are expected lo attend the event are winners of Thailand`s SEA Write Award, literary writers and activists.

The night will echo with poetry recitals from local poets such as Salmi Mesra, Mohamad Rajab, MT Zunah and Nurfik, as well as representatives From the Belait District Office and ketua-ketua kampong.

Performances from veteran actors Shafiee Mostar and Pg Hj Md Don Pg Hj Besar as well as child phenomenon Anni Sakinah will highlight the event.

Youths and students will also participate by reciting independence poems written by established poets in the country.

Awang Snip Hj Wahab, DBP Language Officer has invited literary activists especially those in Belait District to attend the event which is organised to recognise the contribution of poets towards the independent movement in this country.

He said it is also meant to elevate the status of local literature and language to its rightful position, Malay being the official language of the sultanate.
