Singapore Opens Arts School To Nurture Creative Society

Singapore - Singapore, which is nurturing its future generations into becoming a creative society, entered a new chapter in arts education with the opening of its first pre-tertiary specialised arts school here today.

The first batch of 239 students from diverse social backgrounds began classes at the School of the Arts, at Goodman Road today.

Singapore`s Information, Communications and the Arts Minister Dr Lee Boon Yang, who officially opened the school, said the country was evolving into an innovation-driven economy powered by a creative society.

The school would nurture its students into becoming future innovative and creative artists, thinkers and leaders of the country, he said.

Although it is an art school, the students would also learn core academic subjects such as mathematics, science, humanities, social science and languages.

"This is important to provide them with the widest possibilities and options for the future," Dr Lee said.
