Tafsir Darussalam Project In Final Stage Of Revision

Bandar Seri Begawan - Works on the interpretation of the whole 30 juzu` of the Holy Quran for the Tafsir Darussalam project has been completed and is being revised by an editorial team before being forwarded to a special panel for final revision.

This was disclosed in the first meeting of the panels to discuss the current status of the project at the Islamic Da`wah Centre in Kampong Pulaie, yesterday.

The meeting was informed that the Islamic Da`wah Centre has completed arranging the tafsir or interpretation of the 30 juzu` according to formats used in intrepretation books such as the Tafsir Muhammad Yunus from Indonesia and Tafsir Pimpinan Ar-Raman from Malaysia.

The meeting was chaired by the Deputy Minister of Religious Affairs, Pehin Udana Khatib Dato Paduka Seri Setia Ustaz Hj Badaruddin Pengarah Dato Paduka Hj Awg Othman, who is also the Deputy Chairman of the Executive Committee for the publication of Tafsir Darussalam.

Also attending the meeting were the members of the panel, including the State Mufti, Pchin Datu Seri Maharaja Dato Paduka Seri Setia (Dr) Ustaz Hj Abdul Aziz Juned. Tafsir Darussalam is scheduled for publication in July this year in conjunction with His Majesty`s 62nd birthday.

According to the Acting Director at the Centre, Hjh Hasnah Hj Omar, the decision to publish Tafsir Darussalam and Huraian Tafsir Darussalam, another related project, was made after His Majesty the Sultan and Yang Di-Pertuan of Brunei Darussalam called for the Ministry of Religious Affairs to prepare Brunei`s version of the interpretation of the Quranic verses.

Hjh Hasnah said that this came about during His Majesty`s visit to several religious institutions on March, 8, last year, the monarch observed that the students were learning the Quran with the interpretation in Bahasa Indonesia.

His Majesty acknowledged then that there was a need for hitch tafsir or hooks on Quran interpretation to be `diversified`.

His Majesty in a titah during the closing ceremony of the National Adult Level Quran Reading Competition on May 24, 2007 expressed his pleasure with efforts to publish the interpretation of the Quran which was to be called Tafsir Darussalam.

The monarch said that the publication would increase the collection of reference materials on understanding the al-Quran along with the existing books of tafsir of high standard.

Meanwhile the second project the Huraian Tafsir Darussalam consists of previous works on the tafsir published in a magazine called the Siri Tafsir Darussalam which started in 1972. The publication of the magazine ended after covering 22 Juzu` in its 136th issue.
