Tourism Malaysia Targets 22.5 Million Arrivals This Year

Kuala Lumpur- Tourism Malaysia has targeted to achieve up to 22.5 million tourist arrivals this year, its Southeast Asia division director Zainuddin Abdul Wahab said.

He said to achieve the target Tourism Malaysia would continue with the programmes implemented in 2007 but with improvements from time to time.

"Last year we recorded 20.88 million tourist arrivals compared to the target of 20.5 million," he told Bernama at a business presentation and dinner for Tourism Malaysia`s mega familiarisation tour programme, here today.

The tour is held in conjunction with the Visit Kelantan Year 2008 and the Chinese New Year Open House 2008 which will be launched by Prime Minister Datuk Seri Abdullah Ahmad Badawi tomorrow.

A total of 174 media practitioners from 12 countries including Singapore, Indonesia, Philippine, Laos, Cambodia, Australia, France, Russia and Italy participated in the tour.

The event, the third in its series, is aimed at showcasing the country`s multicultural people who come together to celebrate one another`s festivals.
