Bandar seri Begawan - A rehearsal for the upcoming International Museum Day celebrations was yesterday held at the old Royal Customs and Excise wharf in the capital, witnessed by Acting Director of Museums Department Awang Bantong Antaran and Acting Deputy Director of Museums Department Pengiran Dr Karim Pengiran Haji Osman.

The International Museum Day is celebrated worldwide, and was introduced by the International Council of Museums in 1977.

Brunei will celebrate the event tomorrow at the wharf, joined by personnel from the Department of Museums.

Among the objectives of the celebration are: to provide the opportunity for museum professionals to meet the public; and to tackle the challenges faced by the Museums Department.

This year‘s celebration, themed "Museums as Agents of Social Change and Development", will see the presentation of Exemplary Personnel Award to an outstanding individual.

Retiring personnel will also be acknowledged during the celebration, while a book, "A Guide to the Amphibians and Reptiles of Tasek Merimbun", launched.

Other activities lined up for the International Museum Day include roadshows in all four districts.

For the Brunei-Muara District, the roadshow will be held from May 20-29 at the old Royal Customs and Excise building, while for the Tutong District, at the Tutong Civic Centre from June 11-12.

For the Belait District, it will be held at the Oil and Gas Discovery Centre from July 2-3, while for the Temburong District, at Dewan Belalong from July 28-29.
