Singapore Food Festival launched at Airport Restaurant

Bardar Seri Begawan - Bruneians can now enjoy authentic Singaporean cuisine at the Airport Restaurant following yesterday afternoon`s launch of its Singapore Food Festival.

Popular Singaporean dishes like Chilli Crab, Hainanese Chicken Rice, Singapore Laksa, Peranakan Fish Curry, Ayam Tempra, Bergadil Daging, Mutton Curry `Pasir Panjang`, Tenggiri Masak Asam Pedas, Nasi Sabarina and Ayam Maharani among others are available until May 11.

Officiating the event yesterday was Pg Dato Paduka Hj Abu Bakar Pg Seri Indera Pg Hj Ismail, the Chairman of Royal Brunei Catering (RBC) Sdn Bhd. Also present to witness the occasion was Mr Joseph Koh, the High Commissioner of Singapore.

In his welcoming address, RBC`s Acting General Manager Hj Omar Ali Hj Mohd Daud said, "We have been working closely together with the Singapore High Commission and Singapore Tourism Promotion Board in bringing the popular and authentic Singapore cuisine for our customers."

"The great support from the Singapore High Commission, particularly Mr Joseph Koh, has contributed to the festival`s success.

"RBC would also like to convey our appreciations to the Singaporean High Commissioner and Singapore Tourism Promotion Board in assisting us to bring in celebrity chef Asmah Ismail, who will be demonstrating her cooking skills and conducting classes until May 2 as the festival`s highlights.

"The presence of Chef Asmah Laili would also not have been possible without the sponsorship received from our loyal partner, Standard Chartered Bank," he added.

"To make the festival more interesting, Royal Brunei Airlines has contributed four return tickets to Singapore and the Royal Plaza on Scotts have also offered rooms for our lucky draw winners."

In another speech, Mr Joseph Koh highlighted the many reasons why Singapore is known as a food paradise. Singaporeans are very fussy about food and the competition is high.

Food stalls and restaurants have to be very good to stay in business and therefore standards are also very high.

Singaporeans have a love of food and made it part of their culture. Many new food establishments are also still waiting to be discovered in Singapore. After the launch, Pg Dato Paduka Hj Abu Bakar and Joseph Koh exchanged souvenirs.

Patrons of the festival stand a chance to win two return tickets to Singapore with RBA and a three-day, two-night stay at the Royal Plaza on Scotts in its lucky draw. In addition, Standard Chartered card members are entitled to special discounts during the promotional period for the buffet dinner.
