Singapore students in Brunei on cultural visit

Bandar Seri Begawan - A group of students from the New Town Primary School in Singapore are currently in the country to experience the culture of Brunei Darussalam.

Leading the delegation which comprises 19 Malay students and an Indian student, are four teachers, Cikgu Laila Sari Arifin, Cikgu Norlela, Cikgu Hartini and Cikgu Sabariah, who will be in the country for four days.

According to Cikgu Laila Sari Arifin, the head of New Town Primary School, they are in the country to present a proposal where they intend to invite a school from Brunei to visit their new school building at Tanglin in Singapore at the end of this year.

She said that although New Town Primary School has been on many similar learning journeys to China, India, Germany and New Zealand, this marks the first time they are here to learn more about the Malay language.

Upon their arrival, the Bulletin managed to talk to an 11-year-old pupil, Nur Aishah bte Mohd Yusoff, who expressed her excitement in visiting Brunei for the first time.

"I am very excited to make new friends. We have been waiting such a long time to come here and now that we are finally here, I will try to learn everything I can and I`m sure we will enjoy seeing the many interesting places in Brunei," she said.

During their time here, they will visit the Binturan Primary School and Rimba II Primary School as well as to Kampung Ayer, Sultan Omar Ali Saifuddien Mosque and the Brunei Museum.
