SM Semaun hosts Malay Language Week

Bandar Seri Begawan - A collaboration by the Malay Language Department, Malay Literature Department and Melayu Islam Beraja, Awang Semaun Secondary School hosted Language Week for two weeks, which started from April 21 until last Thursday afternoon. This event is a yearly activity for the school.

The aim of the activity was to test the students` knowledge on the Malay Language, Malay Literature and the Melayu Islam Beraja.

They introduced games, medicines, traditional Brunei cakes and a demonstration on how to create kites as well as introducing the types of kites, which can be found in Brunei.

Dayang Chong Li Chen, headmistress of the school officiated the event, which was on April 23.

Last April also saw a workshop titled "Terasul Dan Bahasa Pengganti Diri" which was delivered by Haji Abdul Manaf @ Muhd Zulfikri Haji Japar, officer from the Adat Istiadat Department.

This activity will emphasise the status of the Malay language as the country`s official language as well as to maintain the quality of the Melayu Islam Beraja as the country`s philosophy.
