Learning the art of Malay traditional massage

Bandar Seri Begawan - Local youths who are interested in pursuing a career in Malay traditional massage will be able to undergo a unique training commencing this November, thanks to a local company and its Malaysian counterpart which signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) yesterday.

The MoU was signed between Pg Hj Abu Bakar Pg DP Hj Mohamad of Hasbiya Nurul Ulum Education Services and Syed Mahdi Faozi Barakbah, principal consultant of Tongkat Tua Enterprise, Malaysia in providing massage training for the first time here.

According to Syed Mahdi, he said his company will teach participants the systematic and proper way of Malay traditional massage.

"A massage therapist must know how to massage correctly otherwise he or she could mess up the body system.

"The training that will be taught by professionals and will show them the correct and proper way of massage," he said.

Meanwhile, Pg Hj Abu Bakar said the training will allow local youths to become professionals in Malay traditional massage.

"Clients will not feel hesitant to approach professional massagers. Furthermore, the course will keep the Malay traditional massage alive, which is believed to cure various physical and spiritual ailments," he said.

Syed Mahdi said massage is an instinctive human response that has been slowly developed over the centuries into a sophisticated healing art and science. Traditional massage therapy is an alternative health care package offered since many generations ago.

"Reflexology, full-body massage, aromatherapy technique and manhood therapy are traditional massages that could restore energy, enhance relaxation and returning the heart rate, blood pressure and circulation to the normal state," he said. By Rosli Abidin Yahya
