Sagang Award for Riau Artists

Riau - It was 19.30 Western Indonesian Time. Bright orange batik dresses and golden yellow sarongs on nine dancers from the Riau Art Class lit up the whole room. The beating of the drums and violins were mixed with various Malay musical instruments.

The dancers performed the Tari Pesta Nelayan Pesisir (The Fishermen‘s Party Dance) at a hotel in Pekanbaru, Riau last Tuesday, to celebrate the “2008 Sagang Award Evening”. “The event is an honor and appreciation for Riau artists,” said Sagang Foundation founder, Rida K. Liamsi.

The Sagang Award was presented to seven people/foundations, among them were, Fakhrunnas M.A. Jabar, G.P. Ade Darmawi, Emmy Kadir, Soreram Indah, 91.5 FM RAdio, Yogyakarta‘s Malay Cultural Study and the Development Board, and Purnimasari, a Riau Post journalist. JUPERNALIS SAMOSIR
