Singapore Keen on Expanding Malay Language Education Ties

Brunei - The Minister of Education received a courtesy call yesterday afternoon from the Senior Parliament Secretary for Education and Home Affairs of Singapore, Masagos Zulkifli, to discuss the possibility of further bilateral cooperation between Brunei and Singapore.

Masagos` visit is an extension of the efforts and commitment under the MoU signed between the two countries` education ministries on February 14, 2006.

In his capacity as Chairman of the Malay Language and Learning Promotion Committee, Masagos is heading a delegation of 26 teachers from the Singapore Malay Teachers Association (PGBM) on a three-day working visit. They hope to exchange ideas on expanding the Malay language curriculum and methods of teaching and learning the subject in both countries. This trip also gives the visiting Malay language teachers an opportunity to enhance their knowledge of the subject as well as to familiarize themselves with Brunei`s language, culture and literature.

In that respect, the visitors have been invited to stay in the country for an additional four days to gain a full Brunei experience through working visits to Temburong, the Ministry of Culture, Youth and Sports, the Handicrafts Centre, the Language and Literature Bureau and a few other places of interest.

Later this week, Masagos will pay a courtesy call on the Deputy Minister of Religious Affairs and visit Universiti Brunei Darussalam.
