Showcase of Temburong`s culture

Temburong - Thousands of people yesterday turned up at the Temburong Community Complex in Bangar to greet His Majesty the Sultan and Yang Di-Pertuan of Brunei Darussalam in the final get-together with the people which was held in conjunction with the monarch`s 62nd birthday celebrations.

One of the highlights of the get-together was the Multicultural Gallery, which shines the spotlight on the culture of the people of Temburong.

After meeting the people, His Majesty and the royal entourage made their way to the Temburong District Heritage, Arts and Culture Gallery, where the monarch viewed the galleries of four major Temburong tribes, namely, the Malay-Kedayan, Iban, Chinese Tionghoa and Murut.

The gallery - which is an extension of the main gallery based in Pekan Bangar - was later opened to members of the public.

"The theme of the gallery changes yearly with this year focusing on the Malay Heritage, Arts and Culture," said Officer-in-Charge Haji Badas bin Haji Kamaruddin.

Haji Badas said the gallery is quite similar to that of last year, however, this year a greater number of participants displayed their artifacts.

The gallery showcases small-scale models of traditional houses in Temburong, local musical instruments, rice field utensils, traditional attire and tribal household items, among others. By Amin Hosni and Syafiq Affendy
