Free Education For Malaysians

Kuala Lumpur - The government has always emphasised on free education for all with annual schools fees and fees for major examinations like PMR, SPM and STPM abolished.

With basic education in this country virtually rolled out for a token sum, low income parents in the rural areas, those in the middle income group and those with many children stand to benefit.

Effective 2008, the free text book scheme is extended to all regardless of the family`s net income and their number of children.

This means this year there are 5.7 million students all over the nation enjoying free textbooks.

Therefore, there is no excuse for any parents for not sending their children to school until they finish their secondary level.

In special cases, the poor students are also given aid to purchase school uniforms and other necessities.

The government is going all out to ensure Malaysians emerge educated, the hallmark of a knowledge society and illiteracy is just history.

FOOD AID

Knowing well students from poor households may be malnourished, the government has introduced the nutritional food programme in selected schools.

Again the food is free and thus students with a well nourished body will grasp knowledge much easily.

Nevertheless, the government`s generosity doesn`t stop there.

Students who excel in UPSR and PMR are given all the opportunity to continue the education at full residential schools under Education Ministry or MARA.

The government has provided sufficient number of universities and colleges for students to enroll. The private sector too has opened up colleges to complement the education opportunities.

Undergraduates at these institutions of higher learning, public or private, need not worry of their finances because a number of financial assistance are being extended by the government and agencies like MARA and Petronas.

The brilliant students are offered scholarships to continue their studies locally and overseas while the others can seek loan from National Higher Education Fund Corporation and they can start paying back after their course is over.

STUDENTS SHOULD COUNT ON THEIR BLESSINGS

Probably there is no other nation that subsidises education like Malaysia. The forefathers of the nation wanted to see a literate and discerning society emerging in Malaysia and that has been achieved.

Free education up to the secondary level is synonymous with developed nations, but in Malaysia`s case it was attained while it was developing.

Students are the asset for the nation. They are the future workforce and contributors for development. Therefore it`s only proper that they are provided with all the avenues to seek knowledge and enrich themselves and the nation.
