RI still has wide opportunities to export furniture

Beijing - Indonesia still have ample opportunities to export its furniture to China, trade attache at the Indonesian Embassy in Beijing, Imbang Listiyadi, said here on Wednesday.

"Indonesia still has an opportunity to export its Furniture to China and therefore as a furniture producer, its products is still reckoned with in that country," Imbang Listiyadi said.

He said that some 40 Indonesian furniture businessmen and and hundreds of others from China and other Asian countries participated in the 22nd Shenzhen International Furniture Exhibition (SIFE) in China.

Imbang said the Indonesian furniture businessmen participated in the exhibition under a cooperation agreement between the National Agency for Export Development (BPEN) and the Indonesian Handicraft and Furniture Association (Asmindo).

According to him, the participation of the Indonesian furniture businessmen in the exhibition indicated that the buyers from China and from other countries who visited the expo expressed their interest in making trade contacts with Indonesia.

"China actually does not have wood of equal quality with that form Indonesia and therefore Indonesian furniture products are very popular in China," Imbang said.

He said over the weekend that Indonesia`s participation in the exhibition boosted its furniture exports as thousands of buyers across China and other countries visited the exposition.

He said the buyers who came to the exhibition were not only from China but also from other countries, SIFE is known worldwide as special furniture expo in China.

He added that Indonesia`s active role in the exhibition would prove that its furniture and handicraft industries were well known in international markets.

Therefore, he said the Indonesian Handicraft and Furniture Association expressed hope that Indonesia`s furniture exports to China this year would reach US$60 million, a 10 percent increase compared to last year`s.
