Handicraft Centre Draws In Big Crowd

Brunei-Muara - Small and medium enterprises participated in the first "Sumbangsih Mulia Festival", which was organised to develop and create an awareness of the small and medium enterprises that are currently operating in the building.

"The turnout of the day was very good, we have two bouncers outside for children, and we have a number of flora and fauna stalls outside selling both natural and artificial plants as well," said Pengiran Haji Tajuddin, Chairman of the Sumbangsih Committee.

The festival had a number of activities such as an art exhibition, cultural performances and a the-tarik competition, which according to Pengiran Haji Tajuddin, were all focused on local culture.

The Sumbangsih Mulia building is less than a year old and has already become one of the popular tourists destinations for local products and handicrafts, with numerous travel and tour agencies making stops to the venue as part of their tour.

"One of the main aims of this building is to help local business entrepreneurs to have a place to sell their products and handicrafts. We are very fortunate that this building is slowly becoming a small and medium enterprises business centre and food -court, as well as a tourist destination," he added.

A stall owner of a handicraft stall said, "There were a lot of people today and even though it is such a hot day, everyone seems to be having fun. With festivals like these, we sold more items than on normal days and I hope there will be more festivals in the future."

"This is the first festival that we have organised and hopefully there will be others in the future," said Tajuddin.
