Bandar Seri Begawan - HIS Majesty Sultan Haji Hassanal Bolkiah Mu‘izzaddin Waddaulah, the Sultan and Yang Di-Pertuan of Brunei Darussalam yesterday attended the Majlis Istiadat Bersuruh DiRaja or proposal of marriage ceremony for His Majesty‘s daughter, Her Royal Highness Princess Hajah Majeedah Nuurul Bulqiah, at Istana Nurul Iman.
The Majlis Istiadat commenced as the entourage from the royal bridegroom-to-be arrived at Istana Nurul Iman for the Istiadat Bersuruh DiRaja ceremony.
The entourage from Darul Karamah led by Yang Amat Mulia Pengiran Sanggamara Diraja Major General (Rtd) Pengiran Hj Ibnu Ba‘asith was welcomed by Pehin Jawatan Dalam Seri Maharaja Dato Seri Utama Dr Hj Jamil Al-Sufri, Pehin Penyurat Maidin and Pehin Penyurat Hj Osman as well as officials from the Office of the Grand Chamberlain.
They were escorted to the Baitur Rahmah, where the ceremony was performed.
Any Bruneian royal ceremony is steeped in rich tradition and court protocols have been kept and strictly adhered to for almost 600 years.
Subsequently Yang Dimuliakan Lagi Dihormati Pehin Orang Kaya Digadong Seri Lela Dato Seri Paduka Dr Hj Hussain presented the entourage to Yang Amat Mulia Pengiran Lela Cheteria Sahibun Najabah Pengiran Anak Haji Abdul Aziz and informed him that the Istiadat Bersuruh Diraja ceremony was set and ready.
YAM Pengiran Anak Haji Abdul Aziz in a sabda instructed YDMLDH Pehin Hussain to present himself before His Majesty and convey the message.
His Majesty the Sultan and Yang Di-Pertuan of Brunei Darussalam graced the ceremony with his presence. With His Majesty were His Royal Highness Prince Haji Al-Muhtadee Billah, the Crown Prince; His Royal Highness Prince Mohamed Bolkiah, His Royal Highness Prince Haji Sufri Bolkiah, His Royal Highness Prince ‘Abdul Malik and His Royal Highness Prince ‘Abdul Mateen.
YDMLDH Pehin Hussain once again informed YAM Pengiran Anak Haji Abdul Aziz that the Istiadat Bersuruh Diraja ceremony was ready to proceed.
YAM Pengiran Anak Haji Abdul Aziz sought His Majesty‘s consent for the ceremony to begin to which His Majesty assented his approval.
YDMLDH Pehin Hussain then duly informed YAM Pengiran Setia Negara Pengiran Haji Mohd Yusuf to seek audience before His Majesty. This was followed by Pengiran Syed Haji Jaafari Pengiran Syed Haji Mashor, the father of the bridegroom-to-be.
Pengiran Syed Hj Jaafari then conveyed before His Majesty of his family‘s hopes and intention to seek Her Royal Highness Princess Hajah Majeedah Nurul Bulqiah‘s hand in marriage with his son, Awangku Khairul Khalil bin Pengiran Syed Haji Jaafari.
His Majesty in a titah acknowledged the marriage proposal and gave his approval. His Majesty also consented to bestow the Istiadat Gendang Jaga-jaga to the royal bridegroom-to-be and appointed HRH Prince Hj Sufri Bolkiah to preside over the Majlis Istiadat for the 14-day royal wedding ceremonies on behalf of the bridegroom-to-be‘s family.
To bless the ceremony, a doa selamat was read by Pehin Datu Seri Maharaja Dato Paduka Seri Setia Haji Abdul Aziz, the State Mufti.
YDMLDH Pehin Hussain then informed YAM Pengiran Anak Haji Abdul Aziz that the Istiadat Bersuruh Diraja ceremony had been diligently carried out. This was conveyed to His Majesty who consented for the ceremony to be closed.
Present at the ceremony were YAM Pengiran Cheterias, Cabinet Ministers, Members of the Privy Council, Deputy Ministers, Pengiran Pengiran Peranakan, Pehin Manteris, Manteri Pedalaman, Ambassadors, High Commissioners, Members of the Legislative Council, Permanent Secretaries and heads of departments.
