Darul Karamah- THE rich Malay tradition of the Istiadat Berinai Diraja Ceremony for the groom on the eve of the Royal Wedding, was held last night at the Darul Karamah.
The ceremony of Istiadat Berinai Diraja, or also known as Istiadat Berpacar entails the staining of henna paste on the palms of both the bride and groom.
The ceremony began with Pehin Jawatan Dalam Seri Maharaja Dato Seri Utama Dr Hj Mohd Jamil Al-Sufri informing Yang Amat Mulia Pengiran Lela Cheteria Sahibun Najabah Pengiran Anak Haji Abdul Aziz, to seek the consent of His Majesty for the Adat Istiadat Berinai Diraja to proceed.
With the thunderous roar of a 17-gun salute from the royal cannons, His Majesty had the first honour of applying the henna and sprinkling rose water onto the palms of Pengiran Khairul Khalil bin Pengiran Syed Haji Jaafari who was dressed in purple wearing ornaments that shimmered and glowed as the groom sat at the wedding dais.
His Majesty was followed suit by Her Majesty Raja Isteri and Her Royal Highness Pengiran Isteri. This was then followed by His Royal Highness Prince Haji Al-Muhtadee Billah, the Crown Prince, and Her Royal Highness Paduka Seri Pengiran Anak Isteri Pengiran Anak Sarah, and other members of the royal family with the groom‘s parents having the last honour.
The Istiadat Berinai Diraja ceremony for the groom concluded with a Doa Selamat read by Pehin Orang Kaya Paduka Seri Utama Dato Paduka Seri Setia Hj Salim, a senior Syariah court judge.
Also present at the event were Pengiran-Pengiran Cheterias, cabinet ministers, members of the Privy Council and other invited guests.
