500-year-old Qur`an main attraction at exhibition

KOTA BAHARU, Malaysia (Bernama) -- A Quran, estimated to be 500 years old, has become the main attraction at a heritage exhibition, Khazanah Tiga Alam, here.

"The uniqueness of this Quran not only lies in its age, but also in its extraordinary length of one metre and its broad width," exhibition organiser, Datuk Dr Abd Rahim Razab, told reporters here.

"After studying the calligraphy and the material used, this Quran is believed to have come from Indonesia, was written on hide and is about 500 years old," he said.

Besides the large Quran, also on display at the exhibition which began yesterday, is another Holy Book of half a metre in length and written on date palm leaves.

Abd Rahim said the exhibition was to show the greatness of the Quran, delivered by God through Prophet Muhammad, and for the people to appreciate the beauty of Quranic calligraphy and its make.

The month-long exhibition held at the Pusat Perkumpulan Perempuan Kelantan, also features unique artefacts collected from throughout the Malay archipelago.
