Exotic tastes from Indonesia

Istanbul - Istanbul`s Swissôtel The Bosphorus is hosting the “Indonesian Food and Culture Festival,” which started Thursday and will run through March 26.

Swissôtel The Bosphorus has been a center for culture with the festivals and events it has hosted and is now introducing Indonesia and its culture to its guests at Café Swiss Restaurant.

Indonesia, known as the Island of God, is the largest archipelago state in the world, consisting of nearly 13,000 islands. Its cuisine has influences from Europe, China, the Middle East and India. Although it varies by region, the staple is rice, which is mainly served with side dishes. Most Indonesians like chili, and coconut milk is among the essential ingredients. The island`s seafood, plants and vegetables form a different cuisine culture.

Grilled green vegetables, rice, pickles, fried chicken and chili sambal are being prepared by some of Indonesia`s best-known chefs during this festival. Apart from the chefs, Indonesia`s batik artists, craftsmen and sculptors will attend the festival.
