Quran Competition, Islamic Higher Education Seminar

Bandar Seri Begawan - Universiti Islam Shariff Ali is holding an international seminar on Islamic higher education and a regional higher education institutions al-Quran reading competition.

UNISSA will be inviting representatives of universities in the region to compete in a Musabaqah Tilawah Al-Quran on Feb 1-2 at the Dewanraya Radio Television Brunei, said Hjh Norjanah bte Hj Ibrahim, UNISSA Deputy Dean of Usuluddin Faculty, co-chairwomen of the alQuran competition.

Participants of Musabaqah will comprise of contestants from Brunei, Malaysia, Singapore, Indonesia the Philippines and Thailand.

Hjh Norjanah said other than a competition and a means to introduce UNISSA to the world, it will also act as a place or platform (wadah) for the representatives comprising of undergraduates from various universities to interact and exchange thoughts.

It is hoped that the competition will produce potential Qari and Qariah among the undergraduates, she added.

Champions for Qari and Qariah, the runners-up and the second runners-up will each get a cash prize and a trophy.

UNISSA as a newly established university would be making its thrust to provide a healthy competition among universities in the region, she said.

The seminar will be held on Feb 5-6 at the Chancellor Hall, said Dr Hjh Masnon bte Hj Ibrahim, UNISSA Assistant Deputy Rector and chairwoman of the seminar.

It will present an opportunity for undergraduate students to contribute towards the planning and development of the university.

There will be paper deliberations from university representatives, including high profile individuals from Brunei.
