Sibu - The annual Borneo Cultural Festival(BCF), which is Sibu`s signature tourism event, will be held at the town square here from June 27 to July 5.
Chairman of the Sibu Municipal Council, Datuk Tiong Thai King said today this year`s event was special as it would be the town`s main activity for the state-wide Sarawak 45th Merdeka Anniversary Celebration.
Speaking at a press conference here, he said as usual the three main communities namely the Chinese, Malay/Melanau and the Dayak would organise their own respective cultural activities during the first six nights. They would also hold their own traditional food fair and games and handicraft sales.
On the last three nights, he said they would perform together at the main stage as a sign of unity and harmony to symbolise the theme of the festival which is "Beauty in Ethnic Diversity". Tiong said efforts were being made to get a cultural troupe each from China, Taiwan, Singapore and Kalimantan Indonesia to perform as well.
