Calling singers of Malay songs

Kuantan - In conjunction with the Manifestasi Lagu Rakyat competition, the state Arts, Culture and Heritage Department conducted the Lagu-Lagu Asli (Traditional Malay Song) and Idola P. Ramlee dan Saloma singing contests.

This talent search was held recently in Kuantan and Temerloh to find singers who could emulate legendary crooner Tan Sri P. Ramlee and national diva Saloma.

State Arts Culture and Heritage Department director Mohd Sukarno Abdul Wahab said there were no prizes for the winners.

The competition was held to find the most number of singers in the traditional Malay song and idol categories, he said.

“They will be notified on whether they were successful and be called for the finals in Kuala Lumpur soon.”

He said the competitions were held nationwide and those who qualified from Pahang would represent the state at national level.
