One-stop shopping & exhibition in Tutong

Tutong - Shopping Kingdom & Funfair opened yesterday at Dewan Seri Kenangan in the

Tutong District.

Organised by Prime Media Event Management and Advertising, Shopping Kingdom & Funfair is a one-stop shopping and exhibition venue showcasing products ranging from books, computers and laptops, toys, local products, automobiles and local cuisine.

The guest of honour was Hj Awg Mohd Mahdi bin POKDGSDDLU Hj Awg Abdul Rahman, the Permanent Secretary at the Ministry of Home Affairs.

In his speech, he said the trade fair is a manifestation of the commitment of all the traders participating to promote Brunei as a shopping destination.

He hoped members of the public would come out and buy local products. Their support will indirectly help generate the economic growth for Brunei and at the same time encourage the participation of the local SMEs.

He also hoped the fair would achieve its many objectives which include strengthening public private partnership, promoting quality local products to the local people, and establishing networks between traders and consumers.

He urged local traders to use the opportunity to increase the quality of their services by diversifying their products and adding value to their marketing techniques.

About 11 exhibitors from Bandar Seri Begawan will be displaying their goods including books and computers, which could serve as helpful educational tools and information for teachers and students.

Several schools in the Tutong District have been invited to use the fair as an opportunity to arrange school visits for students to patronise the book section, and at the same time address the issues facing many students - the lack of desire to read.

Meanwhile, the Language and Literature Bureau have also been invited to join the fair to promote books written by local authors to encourage readers to use the mother tongue and national language, "Bahasa Melayu".

The event is aimed at endorsing Brunei and especially Tutong Town as a wide-ranging shopping haven, not merely for the local populace but also for the visiting tourists in the country. The fair could not only boost local businesses but aid them in strengthening their competitiveness and stability in the market as well.

Other highlights will be a Yamaha Cub Motorbike Race to be held today at 10am and the Go Kart Challenge 2008 on May 3 (from 2 to 4pm) and May 4 (from 10am to 5pm).

There will also be children`s activities on the weekends and daily colouring contests by KFC and Early Childhood.
