Raising Students Awareness On Importance Of Malay Language

Bandar Seri Begawan - The Bahasa Melayu and MIB Department of St Andrew`s School organised its 6th "Pairama Bahasa dan Budaya Melayu" competition yesterday.

The guest of honour was Awg Haji Mohammed bin Jambul, Acting Assistant Director of the Private Education Unit, Ministry of Education who also presented prizes to the participants.

The competition was an annual activity, which was aimed at raising the level of awareness of students about the importance of the Malay language as the national language and to promote interest among the students who are currently studying the Malay language in order to respect, study further and gain good command of the language while also recognising its vast scope and beauty.

Prior to the competition, a customary recital of Surah al-Fatihah was followed by a speech from the guest of honour and the `Tarian Aduk-aduk` performance from the students.

The event included a story telling session by the school`s primary students, a Pidato or debate by non-Malay students, an ethnic Malay fashion show, Malay poetry reading, a sketch and a group singing performance.
The event concluded with a prize presentation ceremony and a recital of doa selamat.
