Thailand - HRH Princess Maha Chakri Sirindhorn believes the presence of Thai-style pavilions overseas is a great way to promote Thainess.
"The princess has instructed us to closely take care of this project," Fine Arts Department director general Grienggrai Sampatchalit said Monday, referring to the plan to construct Thai pavilions in foreign countries.
The princess recently inaugurated a renovated Thai-style pavilion in Hawaii.
The pavilion was first presented to the Hawaii more than 30 years ago by HM the King Bhumibol Adulyadej.
Culture Ministry permanent secretary Vira Rojpojchanarat said his ministry had launched the plan to construct the Thai-style pavilions overseas because it could promote Thai arts, culture and architecture while strengthening ties between Thailand and foreign countries.
"The construction of Thai-style pavilions in Japan, Switzerland, Sweden, Germany and the United States are now completed," Vira said.
