Tutong - Brunei National Solidarity Party (PPKB) held a religious gathering at a restaurant in Jalan Tutong on Thursday to mark the Israk Mikraj celebration.
The event began with the recital of a poem, entitled "Prophet Muhammad (SAW) Prophet of Allah and an Islamic Leader", penned by PPKB president Dr Haji Abdul Latif bin Chuchu and delivered by Haji Johari Pehin Dato Haji Omar.
Dr Haji Abdul Latif, in his speech, said current development in science and technology proves that the ascension of Prophet Muhammad (SAW) to Heaven was not a journey of dream but a reality.
"Scientists have proven that people can go to space in a matter of days. But Prophet Muhammad (SAW) showed us more than 14,000 years ago that he went on a journey to Heaven in one night by the will of Allah," he said.
Meanwhile, a religious talk on the prophet`s journey was delivered by Ustaz Haji Somali bin Haji Adam.
He stressed the need for spreading the glorious teachings of Prophet Muhammad (SAW), all of which essentially focus on the well-being and welfare of the human race.
"We need to act upon the Sunnah of Prophet Muhammad (SAW) not only on this auspicious occasion but throughout the year. At the same time, we should strive for spreading the message of peace and love, so we may become his true followers," he added.
He also said, "Let`s endeavour to spread the message emanating from the life of Prophet Muhammad (SAW), followed his Sunnah and prove with our actions and deeds that we belong to the Ummah of the prophet and founder of peace, who is the benefactor of humanity."
Islam, he said, is a religion of peace, well-being, love, harmony and brotherhood. The Quran and life of Prophet Muhammad (SAW) are practical demonstrations of these religious teachings.
