Indonesia-Malaysia to hold EPG meeting

Jakarta - Indonesia will host an initial meeting of Eminent Persons Group (EPG) Indonesia-Malaysia on Aug. 29-30 in Jakarta to discuss issues for improving people-to-people contact, misperception and generation gap, member of EPG and Indonesian former Vice President (1992-1997) Try Sutrisno told reporters on Friday.

The meeting is a follow-up to EPG`s inauguration which was conducted by Indonesian President Susilo Bambang Yudhoyono and Malaysian Prime Minister Datuk Seri Abdullah Badawi on July 7 in Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia.

"An issue of image building in mass media is the focal point seeing a bad image of the two countries made by media itself. I don`t mean to judge our media, but the next meeting will be helpful to coordinate several aspects, including media`s image building. Therefore, during the event we will hold inter-media dialogue also," Sutrisno said.

EPG Indonesia-Malaysia was established based on an annual consultation meeting between Susilo and Badawi in Putrajaya, Malaysia, on Jan. 11, 2008. The two leaders said that there was a necessity to form EPG composing seven members from each country. Editor: Gao
