History Centre Commemorates Silver Jubilee With A Seminar

Bandar Seri Begawan - In Conjunction with its silver jubilee, the Brunei History Centre is organising a seminar on Borneo history from December 3-5 at the International Convention Centre in Berakas.

The theme of the seminar revolves around conservation of history and civilisation of Borneo.

The main objective of the seminar is to gather intellectual studies on research and discussion of the heritage and civilisation of Borneo from various aspects

It is also an extension of the `Retracing the Sultanate in Borneo` project, which in turn hopes to establish the history centre as an institute of research on Borneo.

Other objectives include creating awareness on the importance of historical sources in the development of the nation, enriching references and readings, as well as fostering better cooperation in sharing information and experience between local and foreign historians.

The scope of the seminar will cover Borneo history, kingdoms within the island, the development of Islam, local personalities, manuscripts, artifacts, monument, culture, arts, language and all related issues.

The public is invited to participate, free of charge. Forms and information are available at the history centre. Completed forms are to be returned before November 20.
