Bandar Seri Begawan - Around $190,000 in cash has been collected from about 80 companies and individuals from the private sector and handed over to the sponsorship committee for the 24th Brunei Darussalam National Day celebrations at a ceremony held at the Centrepoint Hotel.
The biggest sponsorship of the day came from Brunei Shell Petroleum, Brunei Shell Marketing and Brunei Shell Tankers totaling $80,000; while Brunei LNG handed over $20,000.
Other major sponsors were Yih Fah Trading and Printing Company which donated the proceeds from the sales of banners ($22,100), Hua Flo Department Store/Agriculture Farm ($6,000), DST Group ($6,000), Abdul Razak Holdings ($5,000), GHK Motors Sdn Bhd ($5,000) and Gadong Properties ($5,000).
In addition, there were sponsorships in kind from Royal Brunei Airlines, IBIC Sdn Bhd, Nestle (B) Sdn Bhd, Ideal Multifeed Farm and others.
The guest of honour who received the sponsorships was Pehin Orang Kaya Seri Dewa Major General (Rtd) Dato Seri Pahlawan Awang Haji Mohammad bin Hj Daud, the Minister of Culture, Youth and Sports in his capacity as the Chairman of the executive committee for Brunei Darussalam 24th National Day celebration.
In his welcoming remarks, Pehin Orang Kaya Seri Dewa Major General (Rtd) Dato Seri Pahlawan Awang Haji Mohammad quoted the Titah of His Majesty on the occasion of the 23rd Brunei Darussalam National Day celebration: "At the age of 23 years old this year, we have already become mature and are able to understand the challenges in life. Among the challenges is the willingness to admit our weaknesses and that it is not too late to improve ourselves."
The minister said, "The point made in the Titah by His Majesty contains a firm message relating to the responsibility that every citizen has to achieve the country`s aspirations as a sovereign and independent nation."
The minister also revealed the theme for 24th Brunei Darussalam National Day celebration - "Tunas Bangsa" which refelcts more than two decades as an independent nation, which through hardships has become strong and progressive.
Pehin Orang Kaya Ratna Setia Dato-Setia Haji Awang Abdul Hapidz, the co-chairperson of the sponsorship committee for the 24th Brunei Darussalam National Day celebration, in his speech thanked the sponsors for their continuous support of the National Day celebration.

Bandar Seri Begawan - The Municipal Board Department, BSB would like to inform the public that the department has moved to its new building in Jalan Kumbang Pasang, starting Monday December 3, 2007.
People who wish to apply for their new business licences or to renew their business licences in the BSB area can visit the Licensing Section, Level 2, Municipal Board Department BSB in Jalan Kumbang Pasang.
