Wasting Resources, Conduct Of “Syaitan”

Bandar Seri Begawan - Muslims in Brunei were urged to use natural resources, especially oil and gas, in a correct way that is blessed by Allah (swt), and to always make an effort in enhancing their commitment towards Allah, as a sign of gratefulness for the resources, during the Friday sermon yesterday.

Brunei is fortunate to be blessed with these valuable natural resources that have enabled the country to enjoy the fortune brought about by the oil and gas industry in stabilising the economy.
However, it should be noted that these resources are nonrenewable and the ‘usage of energy in the country is increasing at the same time.

It is a fact that Brunei is one of the countries in Asia that has the highest consumption of electricity.

This issue was touched by His Majesty the Sultan and Yang Di-Pertuan of Brunei Darussalam, in his ‘titah‘ in conjunction with his 61st birthday celebration.

His Majesty stressed that energy was the closest example of issues that needs to be handled wisely. It is also necessary to be aware that these resources would not be available forever, and therefore thriftiness was the best way that should be practised by everyone.

Being thrifty or economical in every aspects of life and in any situations, such as buying clothes and using water and electricity, was fully encouraged by Islam as it acts as a basis for welfare of life and prosperity for a country.

The religion also prohibits its followers to waste resources and it was referred to be despicable and a conduct of ‘syaitan‘, who prefers those who are extravagant and wasting resources.
